Using a courtroom as a venting forum is an emotionally and financially costly decision. But there are situations when alternative dispute resolution methods have failed to resolve the parties' differences, or when the other side simply refuses to try alternatives, in which litigation becomes the only option.
At the Law Office of Bunmi Awoniyi, attorney Awoniyi is a seasoned litigator with more than a decade of experience in family law litigation.

Divorce Process: An Overview
The divorce process includes identifying and dividing community assets and debts, making determinations about child custody and visitation and addressing any requests for spousal or child support. It begins when a spouse files a Petition for Dissolution of Marriage. Once a spouse is served with the petition, he or she has 30 days to respond. The case may conclude with the parties signing a Marital Settlement Agreement or the court deciding how to award property, debts, custody and support.
Limited-Scope vs. Full-Service Representation
As part of her commitment to provide cost-effective alternatives to traditional full-service litigation, attorney Bunmi Awoniyi offers limited-scope representation. Limited scope representation is also sometimes known as "unbundling" or "discrete task representation."
The firm's stated mission in this context is to "help a significant portion of a community who would not otherwise have the assistance of a legal professional." A party who is unable to afford representation in the entire case may still benefit from the experienced, professional advice of attorney Awoniyi on discrete issues or proceedings in the case.
She can handle just one aspect of a divorce case, depending on the client's needs. For example, she may take a case on a limited-scope representation basis and advise only on one or more of these issues:
- Dissolution of marriage or legal separation — excluding attendance at Settlement Conference and Trial
- Dissolution of marriage — limited to preparation of documents, including disclosure documents, Marital Settlement Agreement, and Order and Judgment
- Discovery — assistance preparing or responding to requests
- Motions — preparation or responses
- Hearings — representation at or coaching for court hearings
- Child custody, visitation and support
- Temporary Restraining Orders
- Spousal support
- Paternity and adoption
